The American University of Beirut (AUB) announced the naming of the Michel and Sherine Bayoud Lecture Hall at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS), following a generous donation made by alumnus Michel Bayoud and his wife Sherine. A reception was held on this occasion on June 12 and was attended by President Fadlo Khuri; FAFS Dean Nahla Hwalla; Vice President for Advancement Imad Baalbaki; AUB staff and officials; alongside Mr. and Mrs. Bayoud, their parents, their three daughters Yasmina, Zeena, and Mia, as well as family and friends.

Michel Bayoud graduated from FAFS with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1992, and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Boecker World Holding. He is also an advisory board member at the Institute of Food Safety Integrity & Protection (TiFSiP) and an associate at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). Bayoud is an effective member of the FAFS external advisory board and was an instructor at the faculty.

During the reception, President Khuri thanked Bayoud for his generosity and his loyalty to his Alma Mater and the faculty from which he graduated.

“We are proud to have your name coupled with this Lecture Hall, now the Michel and Sherine Bayoud Lecture Hall; this Hall in the forefront of FAFS, where significant international and national conferences and activities have taken place, “said President Khuri. “Your generous donation will enable us to renovate it, hence increasing the school’s visibility, and provide an aesthetically appealing design and technologically advanced equipment that will meet the faculty’s devotion to higher academic standards.”

Bayoud, in his turn, shared his heartfelt words 25 years after his graduation from AUB.

“This wonderful blessing today is nothing but a token to remember that real happiness is making others inspired, motivated, and enabled,” said Bayoud. “I am so lucky to have had the chance to be inspired by a long line of leaders from Daniel Bliss to you, Dr. Fadlo Khuri, and to find a place to put a small spot of light that would hopefully inspire, motivate, and enable the students who will walk through these doors in the years to come.

Dean Hwalla thanked Bayoud for his generous gift and spoke of his career path after his graduation.

“Mr. Bayoud’s recent pledge for naming the Michel and Sherine Bayoud Lecture Hall constitutes one of the greatest contributions towards FAFS,” said Dean Hwalla. “This thoughtful gift will promote an effective and interesting learning environment, reinforce quality teaching, and upgrade FAFS students’ experience.”
