Supporting AUB Students: Abdalla Yehia
March 22, 2022
Abdalla’s parents have worked hard their whole lives to give him, his brother, and his sister a better life. The economic collapse of Lebanon, however, has been devastating. “My dad is working three jobs – day and night,” Abdalla explains, “so our family can afford the crazy prices of food, electricity, water, internet – everything these days.”
Those crazy prices made it impossible for Abdalla to attend university after he graduated from high school. He instead went to work at a phone shop so he could help his parents. Being selected to receive the Hisham and Lina Jaroudi Scholarship paved the way to an AUB education and the chance to earn a degree in nursing – his first choice for a major. “I am very proud – and very grateful,” he says.
