A trustee since 2023, Carlos del Rio is the H. Cliff Sauls Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Chair of Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He is also the Co-director at the Emory Center for AIDS Research and the Emory Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit. Dr. Del Rio’s research focuses on early diagnosis, access to care, engagement in care, compliance with antiretrovirals and the prevention of HIV infection. He has worked for over a decade with hard-to-reach populations including substance users to improve outcomes of those infected with HIV and to prevent infection with those at risk. Dr. del Rio is also a member of the National Academy of Medicine and elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a graduate of Universidad La Salle (MD ‘83) and of Emory University (Residency, internal medicine ’86; Fellowship, infectious diseases ‘88).
