Rabi’ Sweidan speaks passionately about the importance of enabling “human capital,” fully realizing that many people may not have the opportunities that he enjoyed. “I have been fortunate in my life to get opportunities and make something positive out of them,” he says, “but what about others? We need to all think of how we can have an everyday impact on the lives of others.”

His motivation, as well as that of his colleagues at Spring Communications, the company he founded in 2011, is to help enable positive social change. “Our objective is to work with clients who, like us, would like to make a positive social difference. AUB to us is a perfect fit. It has been making a tangible positive impact since its founding. We established the Spring Scholarship to further enable some AUB students to spring ahead in life and to one day positively impact our broader society by, themselves, becoming agents and enablers of positive social change.”

The Spring Scholarship will support primarily students majoring in the humanities or communications. “There are other good universities out there, but AUB is special,” says Sweidan. “Given the situation in Lebanon today, the priority has to be to help AUB. It’s important not just for the university, but even more for the country.”

Sweidan goes on to explain, “It’s at AUB where liberal Lebanon – its many sects and religions – come together. AUB represents the humane fabric – the very best – of Lebanese society. That’s something that many of us treasure and should preserve. The Spring Scholarship is our humble contribution to keep that fabric strong.”
